We live in an age where every child is at risk.

It doesn't matter where they live or what kind of home they come from; the simple fact is that today's children are exposed to stresses, pressures and influences their parent's generation couldn't have ever imagined.

How do you reach those students?
How do you enable them to make good choices?
How do you offer them an alternative?

The Starfish Foundation knows how.

It's really quite simple. We get them outside. Figuratively and literally. Outside their everyday lives, and outside into a world some have only imagined.

We've created a positive environment for a comprehensive life skills curriculum that combines life-altering outdoor experiences with mentoring, academic support, and job training. We are able to capture student's attention because we offer them something of interest: snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking and passes to SixFlags. These experiences open otherwise inaccessible worlds of opportunity for participants, and reveal the otherwise unreachable abilities they have within themselves. The constructive opportunities we provide are powerful incentives for students to stay in school and out of trouble.

Programs take place after school, on weekends and in the evening, but are directly linked to school and community objectives.
We start by requiring students to meet school attendance goals -
the reward is a season pass to SixFlags along with the opportunity
to participate in our program. Meeting other criteria earns them
other privileges. These new experiences help students see
the world around them from a new perspective and start them
on the road to a more positive and productive life.
