Vocational Integration Project Overview

The vocational project assists individuals in managing their disability while still being able to work and maintain a feeling of success as well as a level of value to their community. The vocational project offers career and skill assessments, career exploration, job preparation, job development and job coaching whenever necessary. The primary goal of the program is to create real life work opportunities in integrated settings that require the individual to be productive and responsible while maintaining the greatest level of independence possible. The vocational integration project was founded on the belief that there is no disability that excludes anyone from discovering his or her own natural talents in terms of vocation.

As a part of supporting people in developing career awareness, they are guided to develop a healthy work ethic, to understand what motivates them on an individual basis and assists them in integrating work into their lives. The mission is to have these individuals as prepared as possible to succeed as a valued member of their community and society as a whole upon graduation.

Results:
  • Program participants identify their natural skills and talents and begin exploring career possibilities for future work.
  • Program participants experience community reality-based opportunities.
  • Program participants develop employability skills; communication, organizing, problem solving, using technology, completing entire activities, acting professionally, interacting with others, understanding all aspects of the industry and taking responsibility for career and life choices.
  • Program participants are prepared to be successfully employed in a job that has been individually designed, integrated within their community, that utilizes their natural skills and abilities and is accommodating to their disability without limiting their self expression.
